Mitsubishi Electric's FR-F700 series is a frequency inverter for HVAC applications (0.75kW to 560kW), which can be used to control fan or pump applications. Recycled Lamp Shades

Ella Lamp

Sarah Turner, a designer known for making products out of waste material, has introduced Ella pendant lamp that is made from about 310 waste plastic bottles. The lamp uses the low temperature LED bulbs to avoid deformity of the bottles. Measuring about 1 meter in width, the lamp adds texture to any space, and the carefully placed bottles create playful shadows within the chandelier. To make Ella, each bottle was cut, cleaned, and then sand blasted to give a frosted white appearance before being put together by hand.

Click & Grow Planters

Click & Grow eliminates the need for soil and fertiliser to grow the plants in an airy or misty environment. This planter integrates sensors, a processor and a software for watering and fertilising the plants in the pot. All the user needs to do is place a plant cartridge containing some seeds into the pot, fill the water tank, and upload the proper growth programme and leave the rest to Click & Grow.

Battery that Runs on Paper

The development of bio-batteries is now pushed to a new level, after electronics giant Sony announced that it has a battery powered by paper. At a recent demo in Tokyo they successfully powered a mini fan to work. Sony actually utilised cellulose enzymes to accomplish this technology; after breaking down the paper, the enzymes are left with sugar that had been created from the cellulose; and then the sugar is processed to create hydrogen ions and electrons. Theoretically, a piece of A4 paper is expected to produce about 18W of electricity, equivalent to the electricity power of six AA batteries.
