Messe Frankfurt Partners Elcoma for Light India
In a move to expand its portfolio of trade fairs, Germany-based international trade fair organiser Messe Frankfurt has launched Light India in partnership with Electrical Lamps & Components Manufacturers Association (ELCOMA). The first edition of Light India will be held from 5-8 October 2012 in New Delhi. Messe Frankfurt held a press conference recently to announce the launch. Though the company is known for its Light+Building shows in Europe, South America and the Middle East, which incorporate lighting and building management systems, only lighting will be represented in the Indian event.
Speaking about the show, Raj Manek (raj.manek@hongkong.messefrankfurt.com), managing director of Messe Frankfurt India, informed, “The Indian market is growing immensely, and lighting has a lot of scope to grow. Therefore, instead of organising Light+Building, we decided to launch only a lighting show initially and would add the building segment after a few editions.” Light India will also host a three-day conference on the emerging energy saving and green lighting technologies and applications.
Manek quipped that unlike most lighting shows, which focus on LED lighting, the hottest lighting technology, Light India will present the entire gamut of lighting and showcase energy-efficient CFLs, incandescent and other lamps as well. However, the focus would be more on intelligent lighting solutions.
Speaking on the occasion of the launch of Light India, advisor to Elcoma and Indian Society of Lighting Engineers (ISLE) H S Mamak stated, “Through Light India, we expect to showcase India to the world. This fair is sure to support the local lighting industry and provide a platform for the world players to demonstrate their latest developments, future trends in technology and large range of products to meet every conceivable application in this industry.”
Explaining the context in which this show will be held, Shyam Sujan, secretary general of Elcoma, stated, “This show is going to be really helpful for the industry, which is seeing incredible technological advancements. The Indian lighting industry is valued at Rs.7,500 crore, and is growing at a rate of 15-20% annually. The domestic market is marked with the presence of a number of international players due to the huge potential for new innovations and technologies. A number of international names like Philips, Crompton Greaves, Cree, and Osram are already established in the domestic market.”
Manek said that Light India is attracting significant international interest. “We are hopeful that China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Hong Kong would definitely be there due to the emerging business opportunities in India. Several other nations including UAE, Italy, Spain, England, Germany, and the US may also participate. Besides, we are receiving inquiries from distant geographies like South Africa, Switzerland, and Finland.” The show would have a carpet area of around 16,000sft and is expected to have around 300 exhibitors.
