Philips Lumileds Launches New LEDs in India

Philips Lumileds, a global leader in high-power LEDs and pioneer in solid-state lighting for everyday purposes, has launched two new LED light sources, namely Luxeon A and Luxeon S, in India. The company showcased theseproducts at the recently concluded LED Expo in New Delhi. With moreproducts in its portfolio, the companyis expecting a surge in its business inthe country.

While speaking about the new products, Ivan Tsoi (ivan.tsoi@philips.com), senior regional marketing manager of Asia Pacific region, informed, “Luxeon A and Luxeon S both deliver illumination grade light. Tested at a high temperature range of 85°C, these LEDs are suitable for use in the hot climatic conditions ofIndia. With a colour correlated temperature of 2700K and 3000K, and a colour rendering index of 85, these light sources have superior efficacy and light output.” Tsoi added that the small size of these products will give lighting designers theability to create a new breed of highly efficient lighting fixtures. It is notablethat the package size of Luxeon A is 3.05mm x 4.49mm, while for Luxeon S it is13mm x 14mm.

The company, which is based in San Jose, California, is represented in the country through its distributor Future Lighting Solutions, and has sales offices in Bengaluru and New Delhi. “The LED market in India has just been discovered. The coming years will see remarkable growth, as LEDs are now being accepted as a better option for commercial as well as off-grid lighting applications. We too have some aggressive plans for this market. While India accounts for just 5% of our business from this region, we plan to increase this contribution by over 50% in the coming year.”

Philips Lumileds provides LED solutions for outdoor lighting, retrofit downlighters, solar lanterns and lamps for domestic applications. The company is also a fully integrated manufacturer of LED dice, packaged LEDs and high brightness LEDs that are designed for integration into general lighting products. The company markets solutions for automotive applications, LCD displays, general lighting, portable applications, signage, traffic signals and other segments.
