Polypack Forays into LED Lighting

Gurgaon-based PVC plumbing and electric pipe manufacturer Nav Shikha Polypack Industries Pvt Ltd has recently forayed into LED lighting with a new brand, Aatapaha. The company diversified earlier this year, and launched its first set of products at the recently concluded LED Expoin New Delhi.

The new products from this company are the Dectris integrated LED downlight, and an MR16 replacement bulb. Dectris comes fitted with a 12W LED lamp, which is dimmable. The MR16 halogen replacement is a 3W LED lamp.The lamps have a CCT of 3000K and 6500K, offer a CRI of 80, and have a burning life of 50,000 hours. The company imports LEDs and other components and assembles the fixtures at its factory.

Speaking about the growth of the LED market in India, the company’s development engineer Aman Chawla (aman.chawla@polypack.co.in) informed, “The country has a huge potential for LED lighting. Even with the advent of new players there would still be scopefor all of us. We believe that LED lighting would take over most of the country in another five to seven years, and that is when the prices of these smalllight sources would come down substantially. While LED chips are being imported from China, Korea and Taiwan at the moment, we believe that very soon chip manufacturing units will come up within the country.” Accordingto Chawla, the cost of a 10W LEDbulb would come down to as low as Rs.50-60 by 2020.

Polypack will initially leverage its network of electrical pipes for marketing LED products, says Chawla. “Our dealers are located in Gurgaon, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Assam, Lucknow, Allahabad, Ambala, Jaipur and Raipur. We are also expanding our network in western and southern parts of the country, and will soon appoint in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kerala and Mumbai.” According to Chawla, after getting feedback from the market, the company will expand its productrange and also set up a new network for lighting products exclusively. “We are already supplying pipes and fittings to some key builders including DLF, Unitech and L&T and hope to supply lighting to them as well.”
