Delta to Expand Capacity, Eyes OEM Business

Kolkata-based Delta Electrical Industries is planning to expand its manufacturing unit of LED-based lighting products, to cater northern and central Indian markets. “We will increase ourproduction capacity to 80,000 units from the current 50,000 by the end of 2011-12. With this infrastructure we wish to penetrate the markets in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, and appoint at least one dealer in each of these states within this fiscal. We will offer a trade margin of 10-15% on the distributionprice,” informs Biswarup Chakraborty (sales@delelectricals.com), chief executive of the company.

Established in 1978, Delta is engaged in the manufacturing of LED-based lamps and bulbs; neon, filament and LED-based indicating lamps; special, tubular and circular fluorescent lamps;ultra-violet-C germicidal tubularlamps; besides bringing out different types of electric fans under itsDel brand for domestic and industrial applications.

Chakraborty was representing his company at LED Expo in New Delhi, where the Del series of LED night decoration and indicator lamps were displayed. “We hold patents for these products,which are priced at Rs. 40. They are a big hit in West Bengal and other eastern Indian markets. They are available in base caps of B22D, E-27, E-14, SBC and SCC, and in 6V, 12V, 24V and 30V variants. The products come in red, yellow, orange, blue, green and white colours with round, candleand pigmy shapes, all carrying a five year warranty. Our company is delighting customers as the lamps are also available with colour changing and flickering feature.”

He informs that the company wants to be an OEM supplier, and was quite successful in attracting the lighting majors during the show. “Bajaj and Crompton Greaves were impressed with our facility, cost effective quality products, innovative technology, product standards and quality control measures. Our company is currently in negotiation with them.” He observes that newdoors are opening for SMEs in the country, as they areincreasingly meeting the demand of strict adherence to specifications and on time delivery. “In the last fiscal, our company’s turnover was Rs. 2 crore, out of which Rs. 20 lakh wasgenerated from our exports to Bangladesh and Latvia. We are confident that our company will grow by 25% within this financial year.”
